Planning for the Unimaginable

The president of a mid-sized chemical company was golfing with a corporate counterpart who was suddenly
summoned from the ninth green. The reason…there was trouble brewing and his company’s crisis communications
plan had kicked into high gear.

The next morning, our client demanded a crisis plan for his company and we went to work. A team of professionals
fanned out across the country, from Florida to California, auditing each of the company’s eight disparate plants and
facilities. We developed a communications plan for each as well as for headquarters.

Once the plan was in place, we led media training for each plant. A successful mock disaster was staged,
which included a chemical spill into a major waterway and 'injuries’ to plant workers. To enhance the reality
of the drill, we involved the Coast Guard and local first responders and invited the media and representatives
of environmental organizations to observe.

The drill was a major success and demonstrated that the company was sufficiently prepared should disaster strike.
